Feature Film ›Inside Hana's Suitcase‹
Director Larry Weinstein and Rhombus Media returned to Optix with the feature project Inside Hana's Suitcase. Hundreds of thousands have been moved by the story, of 11 year-old Hana Brady and her older brother George as their lives unfold in occupied Czechoslovakia during World War II, intertwined with a present-day Japanese teacher who seeks to keep Hana's memory alive in the 21st century. In addition to the online and overall colour grading, Senior Colourist David Hedley was asked by Larry to turn almost twenty minutes of the film from crisp HD into something like archival material, but also with varying degrees of sentimentality to suggest a pathetic fallacy for the main character, to highlight and underscore Hana's moods and surroundings. Mark Driver and Mike Brown also handled some visual effects work to the final piece. Seamlessly, of course. Winner, DOXA Feature Documentary Award Winner, NFB, Colin Low Award
